Thought I’d share another great review I received recently from a new customer when I emailed to see how she was liking her new skincare products:

I’m really happy with everything. So much so that I finally threw away my old powder and cleanser.  I feel like my skin looks so much better.  Between the Miracle Set and the mineral powder I think my skin looks much better moisturized without looking or feeling oily.  Also, I am starting to notice some change in the appearance of the lines around my eyes. I’ve also had far fewer blemishes start and the ones I’ve got heal much more quickly. – L

What she is using:  TimeWise Miracle Set, and Mineral Powder Foundation

How long she has been using it:  3 weeks!

Do you remember reading the section in Real Simple magazine where they show you alternative uses for every day items?  Well I have one for you!  I was about to recycle my used Mary Kay Mineral Powder Foundation jar the other day, when I realized what a nice jar it was.  We were also in the process of reorganizing our office space and voila!  A cute container to store paperclips in!  I can’t wait to use my next jar up to have another one for rubberbands, or tacks, or pins, etc. The options are endless.  If you come up with a good idea, please do comment and let us know!

For all you ladies who are loving your mineral powder foundation, here is some helpful information when it comes to applying it!

I hear this a lot, “I love mineral powder foundation! But it’s so messy!”  If this is you, then I hope this will be helpful information to you:  Mineral powder foundation is the least messy of foundations when applied correctly, and here is how.

The best way to apply a mineral powder foundation is of course with the specifically designed brush.  These brushes have soft bristles, shorter than some brushes, and firm.

  • With the lid still on your foundation jar, gently give the jar an upside down one shake to release a small amount of powder into the sifter.  Open the jar and hold your jar and lid in the same hand.
  • Use your brush to pick up the powder in the sifter, and then tap off any extra powder on the edge of the jar.
  • Swirl the brush in the lid so that the powder is distributed evenly across the bristles.  This also ensures that no powder falls when you lift the brush to your face.  If any powder falls off onto your counter or clothes, there is too much powder on the brush. Tap off extra powder and keep the lid as your clear “swirling” space, leaving any excess powder in the sifter.
  • In small circular motions, apply the powder to your face evenly in small layers. Mineral powder is best applied in several light layers, as buildable coverage, as opposed to one thick layer.
  • If you need more powder in the sifter, simply give the jar a gentle side shake, or you can put the lid on and do it as you did in the beginning.
  • Continue this pattern of powder on brush, tap, swirl, apply, until you’ve reached your desired coverage.
  • Let the powder (and minerals) warm to your skin, and you will see the smooth flawless, but natural, coverage.
Of course this can seem like a long process, all written out, when in reality I have found it to be much quicker to apply than my previous liquid/cream foundation.  Not to mention all the other benefits of a mineral powder.  It’s one of my favorite products!

Here is an interesting tidbit of important information for all of you ladies who wear a mineral powder foundation! There are several mpf’s on the market today claiming spf protection.  It seems like a great idea to have your foundation and spf coverage in one, however, according to Leslie Baumann, M.D. you would need to apply your mpf on average 14 times as thick as the normal person does to achieve the claimed spf in the mineral powder formula. So, it is important to wear a sunscreen with an spf of 15 or more before your foundation, then apply your mineral powder foundation or cream foundation.

By the way, I am a huge fan of mineral powder foundation – it is on the top of my favorite products! If you want to try a great mineral powder foundation, I personally love Mary Kay’s.  It is light, easy to apply, great for your skin, comes in great shades, and is so reasonably priced ($18 jar that lasted me months!)  It is so easy to apply and gives me such great coverage I have completely switched over from my ex-love Medium Coverage Foundation.
